Lieven Lefere is een kunstenaar die speelt met de complexe relatie tussen werkelijkheid en het fotografische beeld.

Lefere is uiterst nauwkeurig in zijn werk en zijn proces verloopt opmerkelijk traag. Met grote zorg manipuleert hij alle parameters die een foto tot een foto maken. Zijn proces begint vaak maanden voordat de foto wordt genomen. Hij construeert zijn beelden met een bepaalde schaal en kadering in gedachten, modelleert de ruimte, maakt maquettes en beslist hoe hij het licht op de scène wil laten vallen. Na het maken van de foto worden de sets, als ze niet als ruimtelijk element in het kunstwerk worden opgenomen, ofwel vernietigd of opgeslagen.

Lefere is extremely precise in his work and his process is remarkably slow. With great care, he manipulates all the parameters that make a photograph a photograph.His process often begins months before the photograph is taken. He constructs his images with a certain scale and framing in mind, models the space, makes models and decides how he wants the light to fall on the scene.After the photograph is taken, if the sets are not included as spatial elements in the artwork, they are either destroyed or stored.
