Jo Van Rijckeghem woont en werkt in Bassevelde, op de boerenbuiten. Hij observeert er de natuur in een verdwijnend landschap. Voor zijn composities recupereert hij materialen met een geschiedenis. Hij gebruikt hout in verweerde kleuren en rubber met scheuren en barsten die zichtbaar blijven. In contrast daarmee bewerkt hij hout tot kool en brandt hij rubber tot roet om op zoek gaat naar de zwartste zwart. Zo combineert en balanceert Van Rijckeghem zorgvuldig tot nieuwe composities over (on)vruchtbare velden, de manipulatie van de natuur en het ritme van een rij bomen.

Jo Van Rijckeghem lives and works in Bassevelde, on the farmlands. There he observes nature in a vanishing landscape. For his compositions, he recuperates materials with a history. He uses wood in weathered colors and rubber with cracks and fissures that remain visible. In contrast, he processes wood into coal and burns rubber into soot in search of the blackest black. In this way, Van Rijckeghem carefully combines and balances to create new compositions about (un)fertile fields, the manipulation of nature and the rhythm of a row of trees.
